~Maddi update~

Maddi did not want her picture taken.

I said "Don't smile". Of course she then gave me a small one.

But when I said "Ok, Maddi don't laught at me".
Then she gave me a huge smile!

I had this feeling right before Chirstmas that Maddi possibly had a speech issue.
Sometimes she would say things and we wouldn't be able to understand her.
Of course as a parent I tried not to worry.
But in the back of mind I knew I couldn't ignore it.
It was also hard for me because she is always with me.
I didn't have a teacher or daycare provider to get another opinion from.

So after Chirstmas I made some calls.
We have had a lady come out and do a few tests with Maddi.
She agrees there is a speech issue.
She tested Maddi's over all development and she is on track!!!
Her fine motor and gross motor skill are great.
Her social skills scored alittle lower but not low enough that we should be worried.
The therapist said this could be do to her speech issues.
Now just the speech to figure out.

At this point we are going to do a hearing test.
This will help determine if that is the cause of the speech issue.
Oviously if you can't hear properly that can and will affect your speech.
Maddi and I are going to lunch on Thursday and then we will go do here hearing test.

Her testing is through the school district.
Once that test is done we will know more on what the next step is.
We are still waiting for the lady to finish her testing to determine if the
speech issue is enough for Maddi to qualify for speech therapy or if we
just need to keep an eye on it for now.
Its possible that she will qualify for bussed preschool!!!
(this is huge for me... I can not drive her and would love
for her to have the experience of going to preschool)
Of course she loves when Lori comes!
Speech therapy is actually playing!
Of course the therapist has a special way of using her
words and encouraging Maddi to use them as well.
Best thing about it all is so far all the testing has been right at our home!
This is so helpful with my work schedule.

Trying not to worry but Maddi has now started to stutter this weekend.
Of course we want our children to be perfect.
I am just greatful that this is something we should be able to fix with time.
We could be dealing with something alot worse.
